Seedream 4.5 Edit Image to Image: Edit Photos by Prompt

Last verified: October 19, 2026

Seedream 4.5 Edit works best on production edits where the original has to survive the change. Think of a portrait that still looks like the same person after an outfit swap, a product shot moved into a new scene, or a poster whose copy gets updated. The model strictly preserves the details of its reference images, including facial features, lighting and color tone, and it is built to deliver professional visual creatives with high consistency and fidelity. That makes Seedream 4.5 Edit image-to-image work a good fit for assets that have to match a shoot, a product or a layout you already have.

Every edit runs on a written instruction plus the images you supply. Seedream 4.5 can work from one reference image or from several in a single request. So the photo you're changing and the elements it should take on go into the same run, and you don't have to composite them by hand afterwards. Because the instruction does the steering, the result depends on how precisely it names the target and the parts to protect. The prompting tips further down cover exactly that.

On Vidofy you use the model through a short form. Add your images, write the instruction in the Prompt box (Enhance Prompt can turn a rough idea into fuller suggestions), set Aspect Ratio and Resolution Quality for where the image is going, and generate. The steps below explain each setting and what to pick for previews versus final files.

How do you get precise edits from Seedream 4.5?

Mark the Target on the Image Itself

When a frame holds several people or look-alike objects, draw a colored outline or box around the one you mean before you upload it. Then refer to that color in the Prompt. ByteDance's own Seedream 4.5 showcase includes this kind of edit: the instruction keeps only the character inside a green outline and deletes the others. Use a mark whenever a written description of position, such as "second from the left", could point to more than one thing. Also ask for the outline itself to be removed in the same instruction, so you don't have to clean it up afterwards.

Name Elements Specifically, in Few Words

Keep edit instructions concise and unambiguous, and drop vague pronouns. Write "the tallest vase" or "the woman in the red coat", never "it" or "that one". Skip piles of decorative adjectives too: with Seedream 4.5, concise and precise wording usually works better than stacks of ornate vocabulary. A short instruction also makes it obvious which phrase to adjust when a result misses.

Common Seedream 4.5 Edit Problems and Fixes

What usually goes wrong in an edit, why it happens, and what to change before the next run.

The edit changed parts of the photo I wanted to keep.

Usually the instruction said what to change but not what to protect. Spell out which elements must stay unchanged. Add a closing sentence to your Prompt such as "Keep the pose, background and lighting unchanged" and generate again. If one particular detail keeps drifting, name it in that sentence instead of relying on a general "keep everything else".

Text on the edited image comes out misspelled or garbled.

Put the exact words you want in double quotation marks inside your Prompt instead of working them loosely into the sentence. This is the recommended way to make text render more accurately. For small print, also choose a higher Resolution Quality so the letters get more pixels. Then run again and check every character in the download.

My image won't upload.

Upload Images only accepts certain file types, up to a maximum file size and above a minimum pixel size, and it limits how many files one run can take. The exact limits are in the FAQ. Convert the file to an accepted format, export a lighter version if it's too large, swap a very small image for a bigger original, or remove extra files if you're over the count. Then add the files again. Nothing has been generated yet, so there's nothing to redo.

My detailed prompt doesn't fit in the Prompt box.

The Prompt box has a character limit (see the steps above). Seedream 4.5 already has your uploads, so cut any description of what's already in the photo and keep only the change, its target and what must stay the same. If you still need more room, split the job into two edits: download the first result and upload it as the source for the second, provided the file fits the upload limits.

I only got one image back and wanted options.

Each run returns a single image, so variations come from running again. Change one element of the instruction per run, such as the background color, the material or the wording, and generate again. When only one thing changes at a time, you can see exactly what each change did.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of edits can Seedream 4.5 make to a photo?

Seedream 4.5 covers image editing, generation from reference images and multi-image creation, all driven by a written instruction. Typical edit requests include adding or removing an object, replacing one element with another, changing a material or style, and reworking the background or color treatment.

Which files can I upload, and how many?

Upload Images takes 1 to 8 images per run in JPG, JPEG, PNG or WEBP format. Each file can be up to 10 MB and must be at least 300×300 pixels. You need at least one image before you can generate.

How much does a run cost?

Vidofy works out the credit cost of each run from the options you've chosen and shows it above the Generate button once you're signed in.

Should I upload one image or several?

One image is enough when the edit only touches that photo, such as a new background, a recolored item or a removed object. Add more images when the result has to borrow something from another picture, like a product, a person or a pattern. In the Prompt, say what each upload contributes, for example "the sneaker from the product shot" or "the beach from the travel photo", so every image has a clear job.
